How do I apply for the Fellowship Programme? Is there an application form to be filled? Where can I find it?

The application form, which must be filled in English, can be downloaded from this web site. A signed copy of the form, along with a photocopy of the applicant’s university degree (including the list of all courses taken and passed), post-degree certificates, a letter of motivation for the Fellowship Programme (in English, not more than 200 words) and a passport-sized photograph, should be sent to the following address:

What is the deadline for applying to the Fellowship Programme 2011-2012?

We are currently not accepting applications.

 

Which is the upper age limit for applying to the Fellowship Programme 2011-2012?

Eligible candidates must be under 28 years of age (born on or after 1 January 1983).

 

How many languages should I speak in order to be eligible?

It is essential to possess an excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other UN official languages would be an asset.

 

What level of University degree do I need to access the Fellowship Programme?

Eligible candidates should hold one of the following academic qualifications:

  • laurea degree (old Italian university system)
  • laurea specialistica (new Italian university system)
  • laurea (new Italian university system) followed by a Master's Degree

Candidates holding a Bachelor’s Degree or similar, must have in addition a Master’s Degree or a Maîtrise (or equivalent) in order to meet the Programme’s academic requirements.

 

Is the Fellowship Programme implemented on a regular basis?

The Programme is sponsored by the Directorate General for Development Co-operation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it is subject to the availability of funds. Therefore, the Fellowship Programme is implemented upon the attainment of the above condition and all relevant information will be posted in this web site in due time.

 

Will you inform me on the result of my application?

Due to the extensive number of applicants, only short-listed candidates will be contacted for interviews.

 

How many candidates applied to the Programme in the past?

We received an average of 1500 applications per year.

 

Do I receive compensation during the Fellowship period?

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend during the entire period of their fellowship. The stipend paid to fellows while residing outside their home country is a monthly allowance intended to cover the cost of lodging, board and other basic expenses (e.g. laundry and local transportation). It is neither a salary nor a fee for service rendered. It is not intended to cover the fellows’ continuing expenses at home for themselves, nor their families. Stipend rates are revised on a monthly basis by the UN according to the cost of living in the country of destination. The stipend is paid in the local currency of the country of destination.

In addition, Fellows are provided with a roundtrip ticket to/from their country of destination.

 

Are UN Fellows covered by medical insurance?

Fellows are automatically enrolled in the Van Breda comprehensive global insurance scheme for the entire period of their fellowship. This medical insurance provides coverage also for death and disability.
