- World e-Parliament Conference 2009
The World e-Parliament Conference 2009, took place on 3, 4 and 5 November 2009 at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., was built on the results of two previous conferences held respectively in Geneva (2007) and Brussels (2008), as well as on the findings of the World e-Parliament Report 2008.
- Shaping the Information Society: the Role of Parliaments and Legislators
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized the Second Parliamentary Forum on “Shaping the Information Society: the Role of Parliaments and Legislators” on 2 December 2008 at the International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India. The Forum was held on the eve of the third Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
- World e-Parliament Conference 2008
On 25 and 26 November 2008 the World e-Parliament Conference 2008 took place at the European Parliament in Brussels. The Conference represented a unique opportunity for leaders and members of parliaments, parliamentary officials and experts to exchange views at a global level on new technologies and innovation as tools to strengthen the representative, legislative and oversight functions of regional and national assemblies.
- Towards an Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network
At the International Conference "Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network – Building together Open and Learning Parliaments in Africa", hosted by the People’s Assembly of Egypt on 4 and 5 June 2008, participants reiterated the need for the establishment of the Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network for sharing knowledge, experiences and practices, and agreed on the text of the Charter for the Network to be submitted to their respective parliaments for endorsement.
- Shaping the Information Society: the Role of Parliaments and Legislators
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, through the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, held the parliamentary forum “Shaping the Information Society: the Role of Parliaments and Legislators” on 14 and 15 May 2008 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The meeting was convened in conjunction with a cluster of events organized in Geneva from 13 to 23 May 2008 to advance the implementation process of the World Summit on the Information Society. The Forum provided opportunities for parliamentarians to share experiences and legislative practices on Information Society-related issues, hold discussions with peers, experts and representatives of the United Nations in an international setting, and identify effective modalities for future cooperation.

World e-Parliament Conference 2007
The Conference, opened on 11 October 2007 by the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the President of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliament, provided for the first time a forum for MPs and officials, academics and representatives of international organizations and the civil society, to exchange views and experiences, analyze successful approaches, and identify best practices on the use of new technologies to modernize parliamentary processes and improve dialogue between parliaments, legislators and citizens.
- International workshop“Towards the establishment of an African Parliamentary Knowledge Network on ICT, legislation and documentation"
The APKN workshop was held on 20 March 2007 to exchange ideas and agree on a common framework for the establishment of an APKN. The workshop, hosted by the National Assembly of Nigeria, was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The workshop was held in conjunction with the International Conference on African Legal Resources.
- International Conference in Rome on policymaking and the development of the Information Society
The International Conference “The policymaking role of Parliaments in the development of the Information Society” held in Rome on 3-4 march 2007 was organized by the Chamber of Deputies of Italy. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) provided substantive and technical inputs to the Conference through the Global Centre for Information and Communication Technologies in Parliament.
- International Symposium on International Migration and Development Turin, Italy, 28-30 June 2006
The Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations in collaboration with Fondazione Rosselli and with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Regione Piemonte, Provincia di Torino, Comune di Torino, Fondazione CRT and Camera di Commercio di Torino organized an International Symposium on International Migration and Development, in Turin from 28 June - 30 June 2006.
- World Urban Forum, side event:
Fighting urban poverty: wich participatory approaches?
The World Urban Forum, held in Vancouver on 19 - 23 june 2006, was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization in a world where half of humanity lives in cities and where in the next 50 years that proportion is expected to reach two-thirds of the global population.
